Ezra Meeker and school superintendant J. A. Churchill at dedication of the Oregon Trail Monument.
The monument was erected on April 19, 1906, at the northwest corner of 4th and Broadway on the grounds of the Old High School, also known as the Central School.
Note the map of the Oregon Trail on the canvas of Meeker's covered wagon.
Inscribed on the monument: "Erected April 19, 1906, by the citizens of Baker City to perpetuate the memory of the OLD OREGON TRAIL and to honor the intrepid pioneers who established and wrested Oregon from British rule." |
