Baker Opera House. Date on photo: Jan. 23, 1904.
Built ca. 1900. Located on northeast corner of Main & Church. Under the name Clarick Theatre, it burned down on November 12, 1937.
W. T. Ellis Transfer Co. wagons. Wagon at the right has a banner advertising the coming attraction: "Coming My Downead." (Not sure of title.) The wagons, all sporting banners, advertised the play as they transferred the visiting theater troop's gear from the depot to the Opera House.
Historical note: This photo was taken the day after Baker County hanged Pleasant Armstrong on the grounds of the Baker County Courthouse for the Christmas Day, 1902, shooting of Minnie Ensminger. |
