Postcard with images of Geiser Grand Hotel and Elk Hotel in the Adler Building. These buildings were across Washington Street from each other.
From the Morning Democrat newspaper 12-6-1905: "Adler, Lee Brothers, and Sommer, owners of the quarter block where stands the Highland Hotel and Adler's store, a 3-story structure on Front St., have decided to finish the block by erecting on the corner, the old brewery site, a 4-story annex...with an elevator and full glass front...and a modern rathskeller (sic) in the basement."
Message at bottom left of the left image reads: "Published by Carl Adler." Adler's shop was on the corner. Carl Adler is probably the man standing in front of the entrance to the Elk Hotel located upstairs. A shoe shop is at the left end of the building.
The postcard is addressed to "Mrs. E. P. George, 1919 Second St., Baker City, Ore." |
