Courthouse, third. Col. Edward Dickison Baker Day.
Baker City and Baker County were named for Dickison. In 1860 Dickison became Oregon's first senator. He died in 1861 in the battle of Balls Bluff at the beginning of the Civil War. He was the only member of Congress to lose his life in the conflict. He was a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln and the one who introduced him at his presidential inauguration.
