| Description |
Cook's Drive-Inn. Located on NW corner of 10th and Madison.
Phyllis Badgely says it was owned by Fred Schreeck, whose ice cream factory was cater-corner across 10th street.
Lined up on the counter are six carhop trays. Signs advertise root beer and ice cream.
E-mail from Phyllis Badgely 10-22-2004: Gary, I talked to my classmate Allene Culbertson Hunt, who grew up in Baker. We discussed Cook's Root beer stand. She said she also remembered a platform above the stand where the musicians came to play guitar, banjo, etc., so maybe I wasn't dreaming this fact after all. Could be this picture was made either before or after the time frame she and I recalled. ... We both agreed that a nickel looked pretty big to us in those days and we didn't always get to buy the root beer. Sat in car with our folks to listen to music from the stand. Sometimes cars lined up a half block away on Madison street. Phyllis |
