Baker City Business College. Classroom (probably in Shoemaker Building).
Walter Broyles, who operated the college for a time, is the man standing in the back. His name is written on the photo above his head.
Baker City Business College operated under various owners from 1891 to 1976.
The Baker City Herald of 9-10-1906 has an ad for Baker City Business College which said that it was presently housed at Elk Hotel (2008 Front) but will be permanently in the new Shoemaker Building (1800 block of 1st, west side) when completed. The Morning Democrat of 12-2-1906 said Baker City Business College has moved into its new home in the Shoemaker building. Two rooms can be opened together by a sliding door. There are four other rooms. In the 1950's Baker City Business College, under the direction of Oscar K. and Eleanor D. Nygord, was housed on the second floor at 2021 Main. Later it moved to the Rand Building above the Cal Pac office on 1st St. cater-corner from the Antlers
Hotel.
