| Description |
Fire Dept. Fire on SW corner of Main and Broadway, 1 a.m., January 26, 1910. The fire began in the basement of the M. Weil & Co. store. Owners of the buildings were Mrs. William Pollman, Louise Geiser, and her son Frank Geiser, according to The Evening Telegram, which on the front page of its January 27, 1910, issue had a photo of Main St. looking south from Broadway taken before the fire.
The tops of buildings may be seen through the second-story windows: Baker County Courthouse clock tower on 3rd St., Packwood Hotel, Parker Studio, both on 1st St. There's also a rare view of the west side of Broadway from 1st to 3rd streets.
Main businesses burned: M. Weil & Co., 2019-2027 Main St. Baer Merchantile, 2041 Main St. Geiser-Pollman Building, 2019-2029 Main St. (Citizens Bank used to occupy the SW corner building, 2049 Main St., but in 1908 it moved into a new building at the south end of the block. It may have been empty at the time of the fire.)
