ABOUT THE ROLE:
Baker County Library District seeks a detail-oriented Technical Services Specialist to support the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our library collections accessible and accurate. This paraprofessional role contributes to processing, cataloging, interlibrary loan, and circulation while also providing front-line customer service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process and physically prepare new library materials
- Assist with creating and maintaining bibliographic and item records according to standards
- Evaluate and repair library materials to support safe, continued circulation
- Support interlibrary loan and circulation functions
- Follow established workflows and standard operating procedures
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of detailed records
- Provide courteous service to patrons and collaborate with staff and vendors
- Trains and manages volunteer support staff
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Commitment to intellectual freedom principles
- Working knowledge of library policies and procedures
- Experience with library systems, circulation software, online databases, and standard office applications
- Strong data entry skills with emphasis on accuracy and consistency
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, adapt to changing workflows, and meet accuracy and quality standards under time and volume pressure
- Comfort working with physical materials and performing repetitive tasks
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Reliability, independent work skills, and consistent follow-through on assigned tasks
- Ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a calm, respectful, and professional manner, including during stressful situations and with diverse communities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent certification in library science, education, or a related field required
- MLS from an ALA-accredited program preferred (new graduates encouraged to apply)
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Supervisory experience
- Book repair or cataloging experience
- Spanish language proficiency
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Hourly Wage: $15.69–$19.07 (DOE and education level)
- Benefits: Employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Criminal background check required upon selection
